What is Active Directory Domain Service ?
ADDS stands for Active Directory Domain Services. It is a directory service which store the information about users, groups, OUs, network resources and provide
1. Authentication- Used for User login
Works on Kerberoz Protocol, Port 88
2. Authorization - Helps to access user resources.
Works on LDAP Protocol and Port 389
3. Administration/Accounting - Centralized Management
Domain Controller - (DC) is a machine which holds Active Directory Domain Service role.
Two folders by default created when we install ADDS
1. NTDS
2. Sysvol
NTDS (New Technology Directory Service) - It is a database folder of ADDS
Directory – C:\Windows
Ntds.dit is the main file where database of AD stores
(DIT –Directory Information Tree)
Sysvol - It is a by default shared folder which contains information about policies and securities.
