What is a Server ?
A Server is a machine or computer which serves or provide services to their client machines.
A Server Can be Physical or Virtual.
Physical Server is a dedicated Hardware or machine on which Server OS hosted or installed which is used to serve services or run other programs as per need.
Whereas, Virtual Server is a Virtual or Logical representation of Physical Server which is hosted on Base OS or Virtualization OS Type 1 Hypervisor e.g., VSphere and Type 2 Hypervisor e.g., Hyper-V etc to serve for the same purchase as Physical Server.
Client OS e.g., windows 10, 11 etc or Server OS e.g., Windows Server 2019, 2022, Linux RHEL etc
can be installed as a base OS and hosted on Virtualization OS as per need.
Major Question is Why machines are deployed Virtually on Hypervisor.
The man reason is to deploy client or Server OS on Virtual OS is to maximize the use of existing physical resources and minimize the hardware cost to build the physical server.
But How it is maximizing the resource usage and minimizing the hardware cost ?
The simple answer is by deploying mutliple client OS or Server OS on single virtualized machine which helps machines to use the physical resources as per availability.
Servers are of Different Types to serve different purpose
Web Server : A web server is a computer program that delivers requested HTML files or pages. Here, the client is a web browser.
Application Server : The business logic for an application program is provided by an application server, a computer program in a distributed network.
Proxy Server : Software that serves as a middleman between an endpoint device, such as a computer, and another server from which a user or client is requesting a service is referred to as a proxy server.
Mail Server : A mail server is a program that forwards outgoing emails for delivery and receives incoming emails from local users (users on the same domain) and remote senders.
Virtual Server : A virtual server is a piece of software that runs on a shared server and is set up to give each user the impression that they have total control over the machine.
Blade Server : A server chassis that houses numerous thin, modular electronic circuit boards, also referred to as server blades. Each blade is a separate server, frequently devoted to a single application.
File Server : A computer called a "file server" is in charge of centrally managing and storing data files so that other computers connected to the same network can access them.
Policy Server : A policy server is a security feature of a policy-based network that facilitates file tracking and control and offers authorization services.
Databases Server : This server is in charge of hosting one or more databases. Database queries are executed by client applications to read data from or write data to the server-hosted database.
Print Server : Users can access one or more network-attached printers through a print server, also known as a print device by some server vendors. Print jobs submitted by users are placed in a queue on the print server. Depending on the job type or the person who submitted the print job, some print servers have the ability to prioritize the jobs in the print queue.

Server OS is an operating system which comes with full features and provides services to client operating system.
Client OS comes with minimum features and if client needs more services, then Server OS provides those services.
